Tufts wins the CIM-LRD’s 2nd Annual Student Competition!

May 10th, 2024

On Saturday, April 13, 2024, the CIM-LRD held its 2nd Annual Design/Construction Student Competition! Five student teams participated this year. Once again, their submissions and presentations were outstanding!

This year the teams were required to submit PowerPoint presentations showing the design and construction of the first station for the Blue Line western extension at Government Center Station that redirects the Blue Line toward Park Street Station and beyond through Back Bay. The teams were asked to include design, construction, pricing, and scheduling. The teams appeared before a panel of five judges from the industry, presented their submissions, and answered the panel’s questions. Criteria for judging included originality, feasibility, practicality, reasonableness of structural components, and meeting other expectations included in the criteria provided at the outset of the competition. The students worked with advisors from their schools or the industry.

After the students made their presentations, Josh Lowell from Barletta Heavy Division was provided a presentation, prepared by Tom Day, to demonstrate to the student competitors how these packets are put together in the real world. Thank you to Josh and Tom!
